South Whitley, Indiana (PRWEB) December 18, 2013
Once again we are reminded that the Elite College soccer teams compete at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival. In mid-August, for the past 14 consecutive years, and for the past five on a date in the spring, Fort Wayne has been host to some of the Nations top soccer teams. The Shindigz National Soccer Festival began as a dream of Terry Stefankiewicz, the Festivals only Executive Director and Jerry Yeagley, then legendary coach of Indiana University. Over the years, teams attending the festival have won 41 of the 55 NCAA National Championships.
For 2013, 18 of the 48 teams playing in this years NCAA tournament have played in the festival, five making the final eight and Notre Dame won the National Championship. The Irish came back to beat Maryland 2-1 on Saturday, December 14th for the NCAA College Cup. Amazingly six, nearly all of the Division one college teams playing in Ft Wayne this past August made it into the tournament.
The Notre Dame win now delivers a second, consecutive game of National Champions playing in Fort Wayne. This past August over 7,000 people attended the Indiana University North Carolina matchup, pitting the 2012 against the 2011 National Champions. Now, the SNSF is proud to announce that Notre Dame and Indiana University will square off on April 12th, here in Fort Wayne. So, in the expanse of only eight months, the two last College Cup winners will meet in a SNSF match, TWICE! The game will be played at the Sport Club on Ardmore Road with details to be announced at a later date.
Each year the best of the best continue to view the Festival as the supreme place to complete against the finest teams in the country. They know they can count on being paired with another great team and Northeast Indiana always creates an electric atmosphere, said Terry Stefankiewicz. Mike Roeth, SNSF Operations leader, added that This may be unprecedented in NCAA sports. Where the prior Champions play against each other in the months before the next official season begins, in back to back years. It truly is very exciting. Mark your calendars now, to see these two great Indiana teams compete again.
